Head of Middle School
Miss Catherine Hives
I commenced my time at O’Loughlin Catholic College in 2010, after previously completing one of my teaching practicals at the College the year before. It was a big drive up from Country Victoria to start my teaching career in the Northern Territory, but have now called this place my home. Throughout my years at the College I have taught Science, Religious Education and Maths.
I am very passionate about Social Justice and sustainability, which has led to me to facilitate the Social Action Group within the College and the implementation of the Mungalana Middle School Indigenous Garden. I have also taken on roles such the Year Seven Team Leader and Year Ten Team Leader. These teaching and leadership opportunities have allowed me to form strong relationships with our students and prepare them for their years ahead.
As the Head of Middle School, I am excited and passionate about working with your children throughout their middle years at O’Loughlin Catholic College. These years can be a roller-coaster of highs or lows and crucial in their developmental stages of life.
It is my number one priority that we support each individual student pastorally and academically; and ensure we provide them with a successful transition into our Middle School and prepare them for their Senior School years at our College. From this, I work with our Homeroom teachers and Year Level Team Leaders regarding Pastoral Care, Personal Development Programs, and various events throughout the year.
I also work closely with the classroom teachers and Director of Pedagogy and Curriculum, Mr Jason Tutty, to manage and promote effective Middle School teaching and learning. I am excited for the years ahead as together we watch our students grow into young adolescents.
