BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

O’Loughlin Catholic College is committed to providing opportunities to prepare our students to live, work and be successful in the 21st century’s world of technology. To facilitate this, our teaching practices at O’Loughlin aim to be student-centred by providing students with the opportunity to become independent learners.  At the same time we stress the importance of being able to work in a collaborative situation.

Technology provides students with unique and powerful ways to enhance their learning.  Our College supports the use of technology and personal electronic devices for the purpose of enhancing and supporting learning and has introduced a BYOD program for all students.  It is compulsory for students to have their own device from 2021.

The device must meet all of the following requirements:

Minimum: Intel Pentium OR AMD Athlon.

Recommended Specifications: Intel i5/AMD Ryzen5.

Storage and RAM

Recommended: 256GB storage with 8GB RAM - to run smoothly and to meet storage requirements.

Minimum specification: 128GB SSD storage and 4GB RAM, however, Laptops with less drive space will need access to an external HD or cloud storage.

Antivirus Software is Windows Defender by default on all laptops with Windows 10 operating system.

Do not buy Microsoft Office - Microsoft Office 365 is free for students – they need to log in with their NTSchools credentials.

Battery Life

Must be able to operate under normal conditions for a minimum of 6 hours. Charging of devices at schools is not permitted for safety reasons.

Wireless Connectivity

There is sufficient Wi-Fi connectivity at the College for all student devices.

Operating System

Windows10 is required to connect to the NTSchools network. Mac computers may not be able to connect.

Portability and Size

Laptops of a smaller size and weight are recommended for easier portability.

Most vendors offer a one year factory warranty plus a one year consumer warranty.

Insurance to protect against lost, stolen or damaged goods is also recommended.

Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) and home content insurance to cover accidental damages.

We recommend Harvey Norman, as the staff there are familiar with the requirements of O'Loughlin families. We also participate in the Harvey Norman cash-back scheme and voucher details will be available at a later date.  Families however are free to choose the vendors they prefer.

Please Note

These specifications do not allow for SMARTPHONES, iPods or mp3 players.

Additional Considerations: Accidental loss or damage Insurance; protective carry case or bag; labelled with the student’s name
